AmEgos Theatre produced The Ladykillers in 2025.
This classic black comedy, based on the 1955 Ealing comedy, revolves around a sweet little old lady, who is pitted against a gang of criminal misfits who will stop at nothing.
Posing as amateur musicians, Professor Marcus and his gang rent rooms in the lopsided house of sweet but strict Mrs Wilberforce. The villains plot to involve her, unwittingly, in Marcus' brilliantly conceived heist job. The police are left stumped but Mrs Wilberforce becomes wise to their ruse and Marcus concludes that there is only one way to keep the old lady quiet. With only her parrot, General Gordon, to help her, Mrs Wilberforce is alone with five desperate men. But who will be forced to face the music?

What the audiences said ....
Another fantastic show from AmEgos! The staging was brilliant and each actor brought their own special something to the performance. We laughed so much and thoroughly enjoyed the show (EM, Faringdon)
Just to say thank you for your fabulous performance of The LadyKillers last night, applause to everyone involved . You always deliver a brilliant cast. AmEgos is top-notch local entertainment…and if there was a Tony or Laurence Olivier Award for amateur dramatics, then you would be nominated up there in my opinion! (HO, by email)
Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed this evening. It was sooo good and everyone was great and very funny -absolutely brilliant. Congratulations and thanks for a great night. (SM, Wantage)
This was my first AmEgos event, I am very pleased to say I was massively impressed. Brilliant! The staging, lighting and sound were very good indeed. Every word spoken was heard clearly, the sound effects powerful but not overpowering. The lighting was excellent, with small but important details picked out. For example, the back lighting when Professor Marcus first turned up at the front door, casting a sinister shadow of his hat through the glass in the door. This set the tone for the entire play. Each member of the cast was superb and totally believable as their characters. Great acting, chemistry and professionalism throughout. I adored the expressions on the faces of the loose society of elderly women during the recital. Congratulations to the Director, the pacing was spot on, and the use of the scenery and stage equally so. In conclusion, thank you to all the cast, and equally important the backstage crew. My first visit, it will not be my last. (PW, by email)
